Gianni, walking stick

Thonet 2024

I bought a walking stick in Tzuruoka on my last trip to Japan. It was simple, durable, affordable, and light — perfect for my 91-year-old father. He first ‘adjusted’ its length to match his height, then attached a small bag to the handle before heading out, as he does every morning, to buy the newspaper. He returned with the ilSole24Ore, ingeniously secured to the stick within the bag. This inventive use made me reflect on the knot’s concept: a symbol of bond and love. I envisioned a design that could accommodate a newspaper or a bag, allow for height adjustment, or serve as a simple hook to be hung on the wall. And who better to realize such craftsmanship than Thonet? Indeed, Gianni is the embodiment of this vision, crafted by intertwining two pieces of steam-bent beech wood. Enjoy your walks!
