“Time flows, unstoppable. From 1992 to 2025, years, days, imperceptible moments have passed that have transformed the world, leaving traces in memories, in objects, in ideas. Yet, some things seem to remain suspended, passing through time without really belonging to a precise era.

The watch James designed for Cappellini is one of these objects. I remember his obstinacy in wanting to challenge the very mechanism of time, incorporating the watch discs into the hands, making the movement not a simple timepiece, but an integral part of the design idea. In this way, time was no longer just something to be measured: it merged with form, it became a project itself.

Today I look at it, hanging on the wall, and I wonder whether it is an object of the past or of the present. Is it anachronistic? Perhaps. But precisely because of this, it continues to tell the story of the value of design thinking, the rigour of form, the poetry of movement. Every time I look at it, I relive James’s ability to reduce everything to the essential. Time has passed, but this watch has remained.
